Last Week’s Highlights

US Sanctions Hit Russia

After years of investigations over Russia involvement in issues of cybersecurity in the United States, President Joe Biden’s administration has officially put economic measures in place to pressure leader Vladimir Putin. These sanctions come not only after attempts to skew the 2016 and possibly 2020 elections, but also other hacks into US governmental agencies and more. Though these measures push Russia to reconsider, Biden commented that the administration felt it an adequate amount of  pressure, considering the damning findings of official investigations.

Vaccine Distribution Exposes Socio-Economic Inequality

Marginalized communities appear to be the hardest hit, with higher numbers of infections and resulting deaths of those unable to work from home or unable to access healthcare. The latest edition is seen in vaccine access and distribution, with especially wealthy communities and individuals having a serious leg up in receiving their doses.

And while many of those who first jumped at the chance to buy and sell NFTs managed to make millions, the brand-new nature of these securities has resulted in serious volatility during April of this year.

This New Paint Could Save Us All Energy

Alright, a new paint is in the news. Is that even possibly MORE boring than watching paint dry? Not really. In fact, this new paint, considered the “whitest ever”, could save some real money. This is because this white reflects all but around 10% of sunlight, rejecting the absorption of energy and resultant heat. Resultantly, less air conditioning is necessary to cool the interior of a home, lowering energy bills.
